Spring is finally showing itself in New Hampshire.
For some reason, it feels like this has been the longest winter on record. Thankfully, New Hampshire gets a fair amount of sunshine all winter long. Just when you think you can’t stand another snowflake, the sun peeks out and blue skies are visible enabling you to endure just one more crazy New England storm.
Today we’re promised sunny skies and 60 degrees. I’ll be sure to take a break and soak up some of that sun.
We’ve been very busy packing, getting things ready, and trying to prepare for a future that still has quite a few unanswered questions. I like to be in the know, have a plan, have all the details locked up tight. If you need something organized, I’m your gal! This is turning out to be a very big lesson in faith, patience, and letting go.
To de-stress, we’ve been squeezing in some beach time with the dogs before the leash laws begin, watching movies in the evening together, reading, taking walks, and trying to keep our minds occupied on anything other than the “what, how, when” scenarios us humans are so fond of torturing ourselves with.
I also love to take breaks throughout the day and see who’s visiting in the backyard.
I’ve been trying to get a photo of our female Cardinal for a year. She must be feeling brave!
They’re very skittish. She usually chooses to eat at the back of the feeder and peeks around at me. And if I move even a fraction of an inch, she makes a quick escape.
We will certainly miss the quiet of the country and all of our furry and feathered friends. And the lightning bugs! I’m so happy I was finally able to see them. There are certain things we won’t miss though. The summer humidity brings a lot of bugs. And I mean a lot. Like the jungle. Mosquitoes, black flies, spiders, and all kinds of flying things I didn’t even know were in existence prior to moving to New Hampshire.
And then the ticks. Unbelievable quantities.
We visited our favorite Sugar House last weekend. Once you’ve had pure New Hampshire Maple Syrup…there’s no going back to store bought. So we stocked up. Ten jugs of Grade A Medium maple syrup for pancakes and waffles, and 3 bottles of Grade A Dark for baking.

There’s a Mourning Dove nestled in there. I wondered why he chose to take a nap out in the rain.
So much for the “squirrel proof” feeder.
The Red Tail Squirrels are very creative. The Gray Squirrels are curious and act like they’d like to come into the house for a look-see.
They also like to tease the dogs. And although the dogs have never caught one, it doesn’t stop them from plotting.
Well, it’s getting to be that time when the house starts to stir and things begin to get busy. Until next time, have a lovely rest of your week and a relaxing weekend!

Well my friend, that’s a lot of information for me. I have no idea you were sick… I hope you get better and that all this uncertainty ends soon. Take care and enjoy that little corner of heaven yo call home 🙂

One of the benefits of the blogging community is seeing other parts of the world. I love reading about the changes in the seasons, the wildlife, the flora and the photos of your part of the world. I also enjoy reading about how food is very much linked to seasons with seasonal produce playing an important part in cooking. Living in the tropics means we have very little change from season to season: hot and humid in summer and warm in winter.
Is that a brown (red) mini dachshund I see in the last photo. I have 5 year old brother and sister (brown and black/tan). Got to love their big personalities.

Hi, and thank you for stopping by! After the winter we’ve had here, I would be happy to spend a couple of seasons in the tropics. 🙂 The pup you saw at the end up my post is a Hungarian Vizsla. We have two, a male and a female named Romeo and Abigail. They’re such loving dogs.

I’ve really enjoyed my little visit here tonight, April. Your photography is delightful, I really enjoyed the close up photos of your birds.. and that squirrel looked like he was going for a ride on your bird feeder, lol! I hope you get to the bottom of this disease, it’s terrible that you can’t get any definitive answers! xx

I think you’re smart, April, to take this latest test to determine whether the bacteria is still in your body. When it comes to your health, information is a very good thing to have.
This certainly was a tough inaugural Winter for you and glad to see that it’s over. So nice to see the birds have returned. By the way, I don’t think there is such a thing as a squirrel-proof anything. 🙂

It has been a looonnggg winter and I am so happy it’s over! The whole Lyme thing started in October which made it feel like an extra long winter I suppose. The moving company comes at the end of this month though and then we are headed West! They are already seeing blooms on the trees and flowers popping up. That will be a pleasant and warm home coming! 🙂

I’m sure you’re frantically busy, April, with all you have to do for the move back to the west coast and then on top of it all, you have your health issues. I do hope the recent tests give you the answers you need to move forward. Your images are gorgeous and the squirrels are so cute – we don’t have them in Oz. I’m glad the weather has heated to 15C but I hope you have more sunshine and plenty more warmer days in the weather ahead xx

I told my husband yesterday as we were packing the garage and shed that next time we are paying the moving company to pack for us. I opted to pack myself last time and this time as it saved us $2,000.00. But after packing all of our things twice in less that 15 months…I’m thinking the $$ would have been well worth it! 😉
