Soft peaks after about 10 minutes.

Stiff peaks after about another 10 minutes. It will end up being the consistency of butter cream frosting.

This home-made lotion is simple. Anyone can make it, it only has 2 ingredients that most of us have on hand. You can add a few drops of essential oil if you have those on hand too, but it’s not necessary if you don’t. I added a few drops of lemon and a couple of drops of peppermint.

Pure & Simple Organic Body Lotion

*Makes 2 Cups

2 Cups of  Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

1/2 Cup of Organic 100% Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I filled a small saucepan halfway with water and set a glass bowl in the top. Bring the water almost to a boil and add the coconut oil. Stir until thoroughly melted. Remove the bowl from the hot water and allow to cool for 30 minutes. Add the olive oil. Pour the mixture into the bowl of your mixer and refrigerate for 15 minutes. Attach the whisk. Whisk the oil mixture on medium high for 10 minutes and on high for 5-8 minutes until it emulsifies and is light and fluffy. Scoop into a container with a lid and keep in a cool place in your bathroom. Apply all over your body after a warm shower or bath.

  1. I am one of those folks who uses creams to get medicine into my body. So… I would be in the second category. I do feel that some things are absorbed less via the skin, but I am not exactly excited to find out on my body. 😀

Can’t wait to try this. I love coconut oil!

    • Shonnie, make sure that you use your medicated cream first or it won’t absorb after using oil lotions. 🙂 I use progesterone cream and just keep a wrist or the soft place in the middle of of my arm…what is that called…lol…the inside of my elbow clear of lotion so that my medicated cream will absorb properly.

  2. This looks amazing and so simple. Just two ingredients! I’m very much looking forward to trying this. We’re coming into winter where my skin becomes dry and I always struggle to find a cream to rub in that I like. Like you say, most are full of the most unnatural ingredients. I’ll pin this xx

    • It’s incredibly easy and so luxurious on the skin! Melts onto your skin but absorbs nicely so it doesn’t leave an oily residue. Thanks for sharing it on FB! 🙂

  3. April, can you use this on your face? Or, do you have something else that you make and use? BTW, I am firmly planted in the second camp! I love all your hard work and your willingness to share the results.

    • Yes, I use it on my face in the morning and at night. For the evening application I add a drop of lavender essential oil. Just make sure that if you are using topical cream hormones that you don’t put this lotion on the areas where you apply your hormones. It’s very emollient and doesn’t allow for the absorption of the medicine.
