I found the cutest little organic tomatoes the other day at Trader Joe’s. I was also excited to run across white balsamic vinegar. I didn’t even know such a thing existed! It opens up a whole new wave of ideas where a dark balsamic can’t be used.
Trader Joe’s is new to our area. I have to admit I was a little disappointed with its tiny size and lack of a gluten-free aisle. I think I was secretly hoping for a Whole Foods experience. Whole Foods it’s not, however, their organic produce prices cannot be beat. Now I make a trip up there just about every Friday to stock up on fresh, organic, veggies for the week ahead.
This is a simple salad that can be eaten alone or served as a side. I think it would go wonderfully with gluten-free focaccia bread with a little side of balsamic and olive oil…maybe some roasted garlic…
Tomato Salad with Sheep’s Milk Cheese and Fresh Basil
Organic Cherry Tomatoes (variety)
Sheep’s Milk Cheese
Sea Salt & Freshly Ground Pepper
Slice some of the larger tomatoes in half. Tear a couple of basil leaves into small pieces, drizzle with olive oil and white balsamic, season with sea salt & pepper. Stir to combine. Crumble the sheep’s milk cheese and fold into the tomato mixture.
Yum, this looks really good, and SO pretty too! On my “to-make” list!
It’s simple, simple, simple. Can be made in a pinch. 🙂
My FAVORITE kind of recipe 🙂
Trader Joe’s does not have a dedicated spot for gluten free products but they do carry lots of items throughout their stores – http://www.traderjoes.com/lists/no-gluten.asp!
I didn’t find many at all that were specifically labeled gluten-free. There are certainly items that are naturally gluten-free available, but it would be nice if they could get the items that are specifically labeled gluten-free into one area. Still love to go up there and look around though, and again, the organic produce is very hard to beat! 🙂
I saw the title of this post and was prepared to develop a serious case of sheep cheese envy. I thought you had made the cheese. This salad looks so fresh and inviting! I bet it was delicious! My “success” at Trader Joe’s increased as I gained more experience in the store. Some of their items are incredible, while others leave something to be desired. I do enjoy going there. I’m just selective as to what I bring home.
No, I didn’t make the cheese. But I have been thinking about making another batch this weekend. I did notice that Trader Joe’s has a lot of fun and tasty pre-packaged foods in the freezer section. If I was single and could eat gluten and dairy, I would be all over that! Ha!
Oh, what a colorful looking dish and so healthty too, bet is was delicious. Love shoppin at Trader’s Joe.
What a fresh and colourful looking salad. I will definitely be making this. Love all the different tomatoes too.
I add some thin slices of carrots 🙂
