You’ve heard the term, “From Farm To Table”?

Well at my house, it’s From Patio To Table. In the last months of winter we purchased garden boxes to place all around the patio.

Then, we filled them with organic soil and the second the weather was nice enough, I planted all kinds of organic seeds. I was pleased to embrace the whole square foot gardening “thing”. You really don’t need a ton of room to grow a lot of fantastic veggies.

We were blessed with an amazing spring, and for the first time in my gardening life, I was able to plant before the 1st of June.

Typically, our weather is so iffy, you’d be crazy to plant before then.

We only had to cover the seedlings three times throughout spring because of frost danger. Unheard of!

And now because we’ve had such fabulous weather, I have lettuce, kale, swiss chard, spinach, a plethora of herbs, and radishes that are ready for harvest. I put numerous types of tomato plants in the soil 2 weeks ago and they are growing like crazy.

Soon, the carrots, green onions, peas, beets, squash, and tomatoes will be ready.

I’ve told you before how much I love gardening. If you’ve never had a little vegetable plot of your own, I’m telling you…you’re missing out on a wonderful experience.

Gardening is essential to my well-being. So is reading, and praying, and cooking, and walking the dogs… but gardening, just soothes the soul in so many different ways.

It’s brings such immense satisfaction to have a garden, watching everything grow from even the tiniest of seeds.

Then, being able to walk right out your back door, cut bits of this and that, and have a meal?

Such fun, and leaps and bounds more satisfying than driving to the store and buying it.

I’ve planted in two waves, so if I’ve calculated right and the weather is nice to us, we’ll have fresh vegetables all summer.

Look at those beauties.

And finally, dinner last night fresh from the garden, accompanied by a good book and sweet Abigail who is never far from my side.

  1. My favorite way to make dinner. I have converted my entire front and back yards into raised beds. Finally the sun is out and I am waiting for a great harvest.

  2. That would be a DREAM!! How wonderful. I need to figure out a way to expand next year. We could line the entire outside of our back fence with garden boxes but I’m worried that the deer would think they were there exclusively for them to munch on. 🙂

  3. There’s a restaurant here in Atlanta called “True Foods.” They grow all their own herbs in rolling beds which are right outside the busy entrance! Everything they make is organic or from their own garden. Unbelievable! If you ever get here, do try it. It is part of the Lenox Mall in Buckhead…which is kind of the “Orange County” district of Atlanta, if you get my drift.

  4. I an beyond jealous of your fantastic veggie garden. I tried to grow tomatoes and peppers many years ago. I had to water three times a day because of the hot weather in Florida. The bugs in the plants were disgusting. I do have great luck with fruits. My mangoes are abundant. I have a starfruit tree(carambola), an avocado from seed tree that is fruiting, and a macadamia nut tree. We had citrus- red grapefruit, tangerines, and honey bells, but they got sad disease and died. We used to have the Department of Agriculture come out every few months to check on the citrus.

    • I’m sorry about the veggies. But WOW!! What a crop of fruit you get to enjoy! We can grow apples, peaches, apricots, and plums here but we haven’t attempted it yet. I think it’s probably hard to have fruit trees without spraying them for bugs and I’m trying to stay away from chemicals. Found a couple caterpillars munching away in my lettuce though! Now I go out every day hunting for them. lol

  5. What a lovely tour. Everything is so green and absolutely flourishing. It’s been wonderful to see the progress from seedling to harvest. How satisfying xx
